Passion, Purpose and Personal Vision
Rupal was born in London in the early-Eighties. She is passionate about communicating health and development issues through photography. Over the past few years Rupal has spent time travelling and living in India and has developed a natural affinity for her subjects. With a unique skill set, Rupal is interested in bridging the disciplines of Public Health and Documentary Photography.
Her vision is to use photography as a tool to convey an even deeper understanding of her subjects which is complemented by the depth of her experience as a health worker. She believes that through her eyes, others’ can see health and development programmes in action and the people they serve – our youth, women, men, families and communities.
Derived from three Sanskrit words Upanishad means to sit near, to be near. Rupal is brought to her subjects not only by words, but also by being close, by direct contact, by being together.
‘I kept reminding myself how little I understood about this place, these people.’
